Susan has more than 25 years of teaching experience. She took the Piano Pedagogy course taught by Winifred Wood at the Victoria Conservatory of Music where she “fulfilled with distinction” the teacher training requirements in 1985. During her time at VCM she enjoyed 2 years of private lessons with Dr. Robin Wood and collaborative lessons with Rena Sharon.
Susan has a thriving piano studio which she runs out of her home in Colwood. Her students range from kindergarten to adult, and she especially enjoys teaching teenagers. Susan believes that each student in unique in personality and circumstance; she sees her role as facilitating and enabling a love for playing the piano in any style of music. Classical, popular and working from lead sheets are her greatest strengths, although her love for jazz and blues stylings often finds their way into lessons. Susan regularly prepares students for RCM examinations, holds recitals in her home, at a seniors center, and with other Registered Music Teachers.

"Piano For Fun"
Learn to play the piano in a relaxed and fun atmosphere! Although Conservatory trained, I choose to teach piano lessons for the sheer joy of making music. My students learn to play using techniques adapted to suit each individual and by being exposed to many genres of music. I have found after more than 25 years of teaching that allowing students to have some choice in the music they play is empowering. Keeping young minds engaged is key and using a variety of musical styles maintains their enthusiasm.
Lesson times available Mondays and Tuesdays. Please feel free to phone me for more information. References available.
